M5tec are looking to bolster our team of engineers to fulfil immediate demands and future growth plans. As such, we are looking for Mechanical Design Engineers of all seniorities to work on challenging projects within exciting industries.
Purpose / Role - It is a varied role with varying degrees of responsibility but with practical design remaining central to the role. Duties will depend on project requirements, but engineers can be expected to carry out differing types of tasks.
Role Responsibilities

Creative thinking and idea generation

Concept design and development

Feasibility assessments

Market research and literature reviews
-
Design justification reports
-
Technical report writing
-
Mechanical design of machinery (include remote operation), structural systems, pressure vessels etc.

Design risk assessments and directive & regulations compliance assessments
-
Failure mode and effect analysis
-
2D and 3D CAD modelling and draughting
-
Mechanical calculations from initial scoping calculations to complete assessments against relevant codes

Finite element analysis
-
Engineering drawings including part details, fabrications, machined components, general arrangements etc.

Application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as well as tolerance stack-up analysis Key Aims and Objectives

To work in multi-discipline project teams on specific aspects of a project

To produce project deliverables to the best of your ability and to tight timescales in a supportive team environment

Participation in the development of new and existing components, assemblies and solutions which meet or surpass the project and client requirements. Core Competences & Qualities
Requirements
-
Minimum 2nd class degree qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
-
Sound understanding of engineering principles
-
A minimum of 3 years previous post graduate experience in a design role preferably within highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, Fusion or Renewables, would be beneficial but not essential

An enthusiasm for engineering

A practical experience/background would be beneficial but not essential

Knowledge of manufacturing process including welding, fabrication and machining

Understanding of geometric tolerances, limits and fits, weld symbols and surface finish
