Role SummaryAs a Technical Sales Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting the Head of Partnerships and the broader Business Development team by managing the technical aspects of sales and project scoping. Your responsibilities include developing strong technical business cases for customers, showcasing our technology, and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure precise project delivery. This role requires a combination of technical knowledge, business awareness, and excellent communication skills.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Business Case Development:
- Work with the Head of Partnerships and Business Development team to create detailed technical business cases, highlighting the advantages of our carbon capture technology and its role in transforming waste into low-carbon fertilizers.
- Conduct feasibility studies, design frameworks, and prepare technical proposals that align with customer needs and industry standards.
Internal Project Scoping:
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams to define detailed technical specifications for new projects.
- Assess potential risks and challenges, providing solutions that align with the company’s technical strengths and business objectives.
Customer Engagement:
- Act as the technical expert during client meetings, presentations, and demonstrations, simplifying complex technical concepts for better understanding.
- Assist the Business Development team in interpreting customer requirements and translating them into actionable technical strategies.
- Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support to ensure the successful implementation of projects.
Cross-Department Collaboration:
- Maintain close communication with the Engineering Delivery team to ensure that technical specifications and project development remain accurate as projects move through the sales pipeline to delivery.
- Share feedback from customers with R&D and Product teams to help improve our technology continuously.
Market Research & Insights:
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activities to identify new business opportunities.
- Analyze market demand for carbon capture and low-carbon fertilizers to help tailor technical solutions that meet evolving needs.
- Always be mindful of your Health and Safety responsibilities for yourself and others, ensuring that the correct PPE is used when necessary.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, especially those related to Health & Safety and financial protocols.
- Be flexible and adaptable, undertaking additional duties as required as the role evolves with the company’s growth.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental) or a related technical field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in technical sales, sales engineering, or business development, preferably in clean tech, environmental, or manufacturing sectors.
- Proven ability to develop technical business cases and define project scopes.
- Strong understanding of carbon capture technologies or related sustainable solutions.
- Communication: Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical information for different audiences.
- Ability to work effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills and business acumen, able to identify customer needs and align them with technical solutions.
- Proficiency in CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and project management tools.
- Technical expertise with the ability to translate technology into business opportunities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities with customers and internal teams.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Self-motivated and proactive, capable of working independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with government-funded R&D projects (e.g., InnovateUK, BEIS/DESNZ).
- Proficient in MS Project.
- Experience in the manufacturing sector.
- Background in Anaerobic Digestion processes.
- Familiarity with project budgeting and financial management.
- Knowledge of sustainable technology or environmental industries.
- Experience managing Intellectual Property.
- Experience in bid writing and project planning.
- A full UK driver’s license.
