About the Job –
As an experienced Cable jointer, you will ensure jointing activities on all electricity networks are installed safely, professionally, and in line with the companies method statements and DNO/IDNO standards. You will lead by example, supervise the jointers mate and carry out both LV and HV jointing works, ensuring operational excellence and safety across all environments.
- Lead from the front by mentoring and supervising the Jointer’s Mate to ensure all tasks are carried out efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards.
- Continuously assess the work environment, identify potential hazards, and take immediate action to mitigate risks. Suspend work when safety is compromised and liaise with project managers or HSE personnel as required.
- Install low voltage joints on both dead and live networks. Follow DNO/IDNO-approved procedures and the companies Method Statements to ensure the integrity and reliability of connections.
- Perform high voltage cable jointing activities, including straight joints, terminations, and transitions, in accordance with project specifications and authorised procedures.
- Carry out jointing activities within the adopted highway, ensuring all permits, signage, barriers, and qualifications (e.g. NRSWA) are in place and up to date.
- Interpret work instructions, plans, drawings and verbal guidance.
- Excavate trenches and joint bays using hand tools as required. Ensure excavations are safe, correctly shored where needed, and backfilled appropriately after completion.
- Assist Senior Engineers or SAPs with tasks such as testing, commissioning, and energisation. Work collaboratively to ensure seamless delivery of projects.
- Hold NVQ Level 2 or City & Guild 232 in Electrical Engineering.
- Have recorgnised DNO/IDNO training in LV, LV live, 11KV and/or 33kV cable jointing.
- Experience of working with a DNO or IDNO with Cable jointing procedures.
- Hold a CSCS card
- Solid understanding of electricity supply, quality and continuity regulations.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations
- Full UK Driving licence (Maximum of 3 points).
