About the Job:
The Director of Engineering will lead the engineering and design efforts for large-scale commercial and utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects. This role is responsible for managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams, optimizing system design, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving technical excellence throughout project lifecycles. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in solar, energy storage, and grid interconnection within an EPC environment.
- You’ll be responsible for leading the engineering team in developing innovative and cost-effective solutions for solar and BESS projects.
- Oversee system design, electrical engineering, structural analysis, and interconnection studies for large-scale commercial and utility-scale projects.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, UL, NFPA, and CA utility interconnection requirements.
- Work closely with project managers, procurement teams, construction teams, and external consultants to optimize project execution.
- Manage utility interconnection applications and ensure compliance with CAISO and local grid operator requirements whilst developing and enforcing engineering standards, quality control processes, and risk mitigation strategies.
About You:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in solar and BESS project engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Expertise in utility-scale solar PV and energy storage system design, modeling, and performance optimization.
- Strong knowledge of California interconnection processes, utility requirements, and grid codes.
- Experience working in an EPC environment, managing engineering teams across multiple projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, PVSyst, Helioscope, SKM, ETAP, or other relevant design software.
- PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred but not required.
