Carbogenics is a rapidly growing start-up company in the cleantech sector. Our flagship product CreChar® enhances anaerobic digestion, removes odours and pollutants from wastewater and can be used as plant fertiliser, for soil amendment and for carbon sequestration. 
The company is looking for a Finance Administration Manager to take ownership of the financial function. You will use your skills, knowledge and experience to support the company in the development and expansion of the first CreChar® production site in Scotland. The position will require you to work with stakeholders at all levels and take a proactive approach to problem solving.  
Job Description: 
This is a unique opportunity for a driven, ambitious individual who aims to make a real difference on our way to Net Zero. To achieve this, you will work closely with a small and dedicated start-up team in a key sector of the circular economy. You will play a key role in developing and shaping the finances of the first manufacturing facility of our CreChar® product in Scotland, and build a true legacy by making this critical next step in the company’s growth happen. 
The FM role covers five key areas:
  • Financial planning – supporting future years financial planning for Carbogenics, producing financial forecasts including cashflow, profit and loss and balance sheet (10%)
  • Annual & Management accounts and monthly reporting to Executive and bi-monthly to Board – e.g. working with company’s accountant to deliver annual accounts, R&D tax credits and other relevant financial reporting relevant for the Business (20%)
  • Financial governance – supporting the programme governance artefacts underpinning live and proposed grant programmes (eg business cases, strategy documents, funding requests) (10%)
  • Advice, support and leadership in the management and adaption of Carbogenics core administrative systems (10%)
  • Financial controls – commenting on Carbogenics financial performance against the financial plan (50%)
    • Managing bookkeeping activities for the business to assure up to date and accurate record keeping for the Business
    • Managing purchasing, invoicing, credit control, VAT returns for the Business to assure positive cashflow
    • Managing company’s payroll including HMRC PAYE and Pension contributions in timely and accurate manner.
    • Managing financial reporting on public grants and funds including; monitoring spent, claim preparation, budget control

The successful candidate will:
  • Be able to demonstrate a background within a Finance focused role ideally with SMEs (essential) with an academic partnership bias (desirable)
  • Be confident working with all MS Office packages and be able to pick up new systems
  • Be experienced in use and operation of the financial accounting package Xero and other packages
  • Experience in completing financial details of grant applications and returns
  • Be an excellent organiser, detail orientated, self-starter
  • Ability to effectively present information for presentation and communication at Board and executive level
  • Ablity to communicate clearly spotting trends at all levels
